They let me stop by the Defender shop after taking Donner swimming today. Sure enough, the two problems were caused by the work they did last week. We were on our way home again in 45 minutes. But no sooner did I start to drive away when I heard a loud chirping noise coming from the engine, so I drove back. As it turns out, when they reinstalled the housing for the alternator belt drive, it was put on on a slant, and so the belt held was slipping off. I asked if this might have been “fatal” (problematic) had I ignored it. They said that the belt would have slipped off entirely and taken out the alternator, which would have stropped the Defender dead in its tracks. Ooops.
If it is not one thing, it is another.
